Christy entered volunteering at Shepherd’s House Ministries with an open mind and a desire to serve where she was needed. She says that being self-employed allows her to be flexible, enabling her to respond to the call she feels to serve. She has visited most of the organization’s sites, using her skills as a handywoman, helping in the kitchens, and getting to know the women at Abi’s House. She has a passion for serving, particularly focusing on supporting women who may feel uncomfortable with men entering their private living space. She also offers her handyman services on a sliding scale, believing everyone should have access to the assistance they need. More information is available about her business at Handy Mandy.

The women at Abi’s House appreciated her time there and continue to enjoy the colorful walls she painted in the living area. The team in the Redmond Kitchen valued the time she spent preparing meals for the weekends. Most recently, she dedicated hours to painting and replacing the doors in our Development and Administrative offices and organizing our picture wall that shares the story of the ministry with the community.

She loves the “life on life” opportunities that volunteering at Abi’s House provides and the welcome and humor she receives when walking into the Redmond kitchen.

She arrives at each site in “Uggy,” her eclectic truck. Fully aware of its quirky appearance (hence the name), she stopped working on it when people began waving at her from their car windows, and it became a great conversation starter. “Beauty is only skin deep, but that truck has everything in a vehicle I hoped and prayed for,” with a little extra in the character department.
